“Traditionally Reiju 靈授 (initiation) is given in person; face to face.

“Touch” (the laying-on of hands) plays a pivotal role in Reiju process; a series of things we do in order to achieve a particular result. Touch in the form of the laying-on of hands is to impart the healing energy and information to Reiki Ryoho students. There is an unbroken succession of Teachers and Shihans, linked by the sacred touch of Reiju ritual, right back to the founder, Usui Sensei.

Reiju with “touch” — a visual symbol of an unseen transmission of not just of the healing energy but also of the information. Touch is a means of communication, an expression of unity, a bonding of people. It is a key to giving and receiving information and to help us bond.

Is “distant (online) Reiju “possible?

Theoretically it seems possible, for there exists a distant healing in Reiki Ryoho systems. And yet we need to understand that sending Reiki energy from a distance to someone and passing (imparting) Reiki energy and the information on to another is a different story, and that the distant Reiju does lack an important and pivotal factor, that is, “TOUCH.” The pivotal factor of a good old tradition: “in person Reiju” and “touch” must be maintained.”

During Reiki Ryoho (Japanese Healing Art) sessions, some practitioners can be more sensitive than others, some may even feel byosen before a treatment starts. Some have psychic abilities and are able to hear, see or sense things that most people do not. If we experience all that, naturally we are tempted to think that we are doing the healing. We start to analyse what we feel, hear and see. We try to work out where the energy should go and what would be the best way to cure a disease or malfunction of the recipient – all because we sincerely want to help.

Often the question arises: What should we do when we became so sensitive, when we see and hear things, or feel pain in our body or strong hibiki in our hands?

Inamoto Sensei says: “It is all very personal, some people are more gifted than others, more sensitive or skilful. Not everyone has to have such gifts or abilities. It can be very helpful to sense imbalances or health disorders in recipients, but basically, we don’t need anything like that. We are here just to place our hands.”

Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei reminds us that: “Japanese Healing Art of Reiki Ryoho is not about doing or thinking. It is about SURRENDER 100% to the Universe. As Reiki Ryoho practitioners, we DO NOTHING and THINK NOTHING in the way of healing. Reiki knows where to go and how to heal for the highest good of the person. We need to be the purer (cleaner) Reiki channel (conduit) possible. Less ego, more room for love — the healing energy of the Universe.”

Inamoto Sensei’s advice to us is: “Do not get attached to your sensations. Your ego and self-clinging are an obstruction in the channel for Reiki healing energy to travel through. Keep your practice simple: Place your hands, surrender and smile. Reiki Ryoho is the art of surrendering.”

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, people all over the world have been struggling with all kinds of health issues and mental, emotional and spiritual disorders. Naturally, as Reiki Ryoho (Japanese Healing Art) practitioners, we want to do all we can to serve and support others. We may now be offering distant Reiki healing more often, individually or as part of a group.
Questions often arise around permission and distant healing. Are we allowed to do distant healing without permission? Should we inform recipients? Is it appropriate to send Reiki to someone without asking them? Could it cause bad karma?
Actually, the answer might be quite simple. Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei always says: “Reiki is the energy of the Universe. It is Reiki that does the fine job of healing. Reiki always works for the highest good of recipient”.
Inamoto Sensei reminds us that we do nothing in the way of healing. As Reiki Ryoho practitioners, we put our ego aside and just surrender to Reiki.
When asked about his own practice, approach, Inamoto Sensei usually answers: “I do distant Reiki healing with permission and without permission. Sometimes we cannot get it, especially when the person is in a coma or emergency room or just simply uncontactable”.
His advice to us is: “Follow your heart — your kokoro. If you feel more comfortable with permission, please ask for permission. But if it’s not possible to get a permission, remember that Reiki always works for the highest good with permission or without permission. Trust Reiki”.

In our daily life all of us encounter situations when someone shows discontent, anger, irritation or disrespect towards us. It can be both closest people, family members, our friends, partners, colleagues or complete strangers in a store, metro, in the street and especially during rush hours.

Many people believe that discourtesy or anger must be dealt with in the same way, that is to respond in the same language with the opponent, otherwise (kindly) they will not understand. Unfortunately, this pattern of behavior is maintained in many families, at work, in society (aggression to aggression, quid pro quo). And if a person responds politely, with loving kindness, this will be perceived as the person’s weakness, and won’t be treated with respect.
Most of the time people react habitually (subconsciously), or justify themselves attributing it to genetics, character, psychological type, zodiac sign, etc. In fact, it is much more difficult to get out of the comfort zone, change, develop and cultivate new qualities in oneself, learn to react/respond to life and any conflict (trouble / distressing) situation more consciously, go beyond the boundaries of one’s usual way of thinking, one’s habitual reactions and emotions (patterns of behavior), maintain the state of inner harmony and peace, become attentive and mindful, begin to look at any current event and situation with spiritual eyes — with the eyes of universal wisdom, light and unconditional love — that is, from the state of Reiki.
The more often during the day we practice the Reiki state (with people, animals, plants, food, drinks), the more stable, placid and clear our mind (psyche) will be, and the more efficiently we will be able to cope with any difficulties / problems, complex tasks, stressful situations. The less we will feed the collective field with negativity (condemnation, blame, criticism, destructive emotions, unconscious actions) and false beliefs, the more we will create prosperity/well-being for ourselves and all living beings. The purer and wider our consciousness will be and the more open our heart will be, which will shine with all possible edges, reflecting the entire depth of universal wisdom and the light of its eternal soul, dispelling any illusions, transforming any conflicts and seeding the collective field with unconditional love. And then every tough life situation or task will become a blessing – another opportunity for us to realize our spiritual presence here and now, to shine even more (stronger and further).
Therefore, when someone is being angry at you, screaming, cursing, making ignorant speech, insulting or exhibiting any other rude (negative in your opinion) behavior, first of all, be conscious — spiritually present, do not identify yourself with what is said, do not let the other person’s reality (state/condition) become yours, keep neutrality, serenity, and then you can understand more clearly the essence of what is happening: perhaps this person has a bad mood or doesn’t feel well, perhaps they are not satisfied with their life, may have problems within family, at work, or maybe they are not happy with the financial situation or their self-realization; they might be going through some kind of crisis, serious illness, it may be anything …

Find any possible way to demonstrate and share with them the presence of loving kindness and compassion, the limitless light of your universal soul. Indeed, many people unconsciously continue to live in darkness (in negativity), considering this the norm of life though in any situation we can serve as an example, gently (without condemning, blame) touch that person with the light of Reiki in response in order to remind and awake their own light and transform negative energy into the vibrations of universal love. Perhaps, with their ignorant behavior, these people show how much their life is shrouded in darkness of ignorance (lack of knowledge), and thus they ask to light them up, remind them of another or the true reality of existence, help dissolve their illusions and that darkness.
No one, except (for) ourselves, can hurt or make us someone else according to someone else’s reality. When we realize our true nature, the essence of existence, no one and nothing can limit or change our true nature. No one and nothing can make a negative impact on us. On the contrary, being spiritually present, we can influence everything around us with our vibrations, the field of our light and love; we can transform any darkness, cruelty, aggression, pain, suffering and callousness of humanity.

Act with full involvement, attention/mindfulness and awareness, in alignment with your true nature, act from a state of peace and harmony, loving kindness and unconditional love, wisdom and generosity of the Universe (that is, Reiki), so that at every moment of this beautiful life you can make a choice to ILLUMINATE WITH THE ETERNAL AND INFINITE LIGHT OF YOUR UNIVERSAL SOUL AND HEART ALL LIVING BEINGS and OUR ENTIRE PLANET EARTH.

Coming soon…..

霊授 Reiju – spiritual blessings, offerings. One of the essential elements within the system of Reiki Ryoho.
霊授 Reiju – it is Japanese word, which was translated into English as “initiation”or “atunement”.
霊 Rei – means, how to give 授 Ju – means, how to receive

“Initiation is a sacred ceremony where the contact is made, with the first initiation or contact, the hands, radiate vibrations when applied to the ailing part”. Master Takata, states in the “Grey book”.
‘ The initiations are an important part of Reiki training, as the initiations do something energetically to our bodies, the initiation put our bodies in direct contact with this universal life energy, Reiki, in a different way than before so we can utilize it for healing purposes. We get “turned into” or “connected” to the Reiki by means of the initiations.Takata stated the Reiki initiations raise a person’s antenna so that they can pick up this energy we call”Reiki”.
An analogy that could be used is that of radio signals, where our bodies are constantly bombarded with the signals all the time, but we are unaware them and can not hear them. We need to adjust the antenna on our radio receiver to properly tune into these radio signals so we can enjoy the programming being broad cast. Likewise Reiki is everywhere -like the radio waves-and in all living things. But in order to utilize it- like hearing the radio programming, we need our antenna adjusted via the initiations.
In the First class Takata describe ( unpublished audio recording of Takata teachings Reiki ,1980) that Reiki comes in your antenna on the top head, and fills up your “solar plexus”. ( Takata would call the area around and bellow the navel the “solar plexus”, she would also refer it as the “battery”. In the “Gray book” she would state:” Reiki lies in the bottom of your stomach, about 2 inches below the navel.”
This area is a lower tanden. Takata didn’t like to use Japanese words, like tanden to her english speaking audiences, as it tends to create confusion.)From there the Reiki travels up and comes out the practitioner’s hands, which called “electrodes”.(Takata also stated that Hayashi had referred to the hands as electrodes in the article of Graham, Mrs. Takata Opens Minds to ‘Reiki'”.
Takata stated that the more a person practices Reiki, the more it fills up his or her battery. As a result, more Reiki would come out of practitioner’s hands while giving treatments.
Going on, she stated that for the first few days after receiving the Reiki initiation, maybe only a quarter of the energy coming into your antenna would actually come out of your hands; the other tree quarters would be stored in your battery, practitioners are beneficially receiving Reiki while they are giving a treatment too.
Takata went on to say that with more practice, the practitioners battery becomes more charged and therefore more Reiki will come out of the practitioner’s hands when giving treatments. She concluded by saying that she was practicing Reiki for 45 years and therefore a lot of Reiki came out from her hands during the treatment, she emphasized the importance of daily self-treatment. While giving a treatment, it would simply take more time for the transfer of Reiki to happen with a new practitioner than an experienced practitioner.
Before Takata had learned the system of Reiki, she asked Dr. Hayashi why the Reiki practitioners’ hands got hot when she was being treated as a patient in his clinic, Hayashi said that it was because they all had contact with the universal life force and you do not ( Haberly, Reiki 22)
In the first degree class, there are four initiations, each initiation has its own purpose. First initiation makes the initial contact between the initiate and the Universal Life Force Energy- Reiki. The second and third initiations strengthen that connection and ‘power up’ the initiate’s system. The fourth initiation seals in the contact with the divine energy of Reiki so that the initiate will not lose it, even if he or she does not practice for long periods of time. The first initiation activates/energized an energy channel that is already present in the body of each person; however, in the most people this energy channel is inactive- the wiring is there but there is no current running trough it-the switch is off. (The activation of this channel can be attained by many others means besides the Reiki initiation – for example certain Qi Qong practices). The Reiki initiation is simply a guaranteed “short cut” -quick way to activate this energy channel.
When applying Reiki , practitioners use this Cosmic Energy, not their own personal energy. Takata mentioned on her audiotape, without the Reiki initiations, a person uses the energy they were born with and this is dangerous. This will deplete the practitioner and, if they treat enough people, the practitioner will die from using and giving away their own life force energy.( Unpublished audio recording of a first degree class of Takata teaching Reiki 1980).
The practice of Reiki can bring one to a place of wholeness and radiant health.

The Secret of Reiju by FRANS STIENE

Zen Master Jakusho Kwong, in his book “No Beginning, No End – The Intimate Heart of Zen”, states that: “This word ju [授], is very good. ‘To cut’” ‘to open,’ ‘to empty,’ and ‘to receive’ are all expressed by ju.”
It is describes exactly what we experiencing when we perform a Reiju. The empty state of mind, that we also receive at the same time, and that the whole process is about openness because the ego temporarily is cut away.

Daily Reiki Practice

REIKI RYOHO  is two fold practice: therapeutical practice and spiritual practice.

Every morning and every evening we do Gassho meditation and chanting Reiki Principles as it was taught by The Founder of Reiki Ryoho – Mikao Usui Sensei.

Usui Sensei taught his students the first pillar of Reiki – the Gassho meditation.

Gassho 合掌 ( がっしょう) 合 “unite” and 掌 “palm – means  two hands come together in front of the chest. It can be used for prayer or as a sign of greeting, gratitude, reverence, or apology. When performed with a bow, it is called gassho rei.

Gassho meditation is the art of creating a quiet mind and listening to a sound of silence. Where prayer is the act of talking with the Divine, meditation is the act of listening and truly hearing what Creator- God has to share with us. In the Light of the Creator …..We see only Love”. Laurelle Shanti Giara

Chanting Reiki Principles every morning and every evening in Japanese is very important, it helps to reprogramming the mind, to be aware of living with this principles during the day, in our daily routine,  till it will be our natural state of living.

Our daily life – is our DOJO — a place for spiritual training / practice.

Komyo ReikiDo is a “keep-it-simple” Reiki system and practice. It is based on Japanese aesthetics “Less is more.” Simplicity is a key to the Truth.

The practice motto is: “Place your hands”, “Surrender”, and “Smile”…
(There is no room for any techniques and/or other things. Reiki is all we need).

“Hands on, Reiki on”. Hawayo Takata.

Reiki practice is — to let Reiki guide you, not try to guide Reiki, if you let your ego be involved and try to tell Reiki what to do, it means that you are doing something else than the practice of Reiki. Reiki works best when you put your ego aside, ego and self- clinging are an obstruction in the channel for Reiki healing energy to travel through.

12 standard self healing hand positions that cover and treat all the major organs in the body

1.eyes, 2.temple/edges of the head, 3.back of the head/front and back of the head.

1.trough, 2.chest, 3.solar plexus, 4.tanden (3 fingers below navel), 5.groin.

1.neck/shoulders, 2.shoulder blades, 3.kidney, 4. sacrum(above tail bone)

It is recommended that the hands are to be laid on each position for 3 – 5 minutes. These hand positions are basically intended for maintaining good health, and they are not permanent. A practitioner can have his/her own variation of the hand positions. Ideally the hands are to be intuitively placed. While doing Reiki, your hands may feel tingly, heated, pain and the like on a certain area. In such a case, (Byosen and Hibiki) focus on that area, without regard to time, until the sensation fades away.A beginning student is encouraged to do a self-healing practice based on the 12 hand-positions in order to experience the benefits of Reiki hands-on healing for 21 days – the period of time Usui Sensei disciplined himself by fasting and meditation on Kurama-yama. (The student might experience a healing crisis, a change for the better, physically and/or mentally/emotionally. It all depends on the individual.)

Note: Traditionally there are no set hand positions except some positions on the head.“21 days self-healing practice” is practical, helpful and beneficial, there is, however, not such a practice in traditional Japanese Reiki Ryoho.

How to place your hands:

1.Stretch your palms with fingers lightly put together.

2.Place your hands gently/lightly on the body. Be careful not to press on internal organs.

3.Hold your hands a few centimeters over cuts, burns and the area(s) you hesitate to put your hands on.

4.Basically two hands are used to do Reiki especially on twin organs such as lungs, kidney and ears.

5.Two hands are placed side by side or end to end depending on the area.

6.One hand, either right or left, is also used.

Basically the placement of hands begins with head. The hands on a head symbolize a healing of the mind of a recipient, for Reiki Ryoho is to first heal one’s mind, and then physical problem. “Usui Reiki Ryoho” is to improve the mind and body, not the body and mind.

-It is REIKI that does a fine job of healing, not YOU. (You as a Reiki practitioner do nothing

in the way of healing. But you are very essential for Reiki healing. Without you, Reiki

cannot work.)

-The energy comes from the universe, not from a Reiki practitioner, who serves as a

channel, not as an energy source.

-The farther from the ego, the purer the Reiki channel will be.

Traditional Reiki Hands Positions:

Forehead – between eye brow and crown (hair line)/Back of head – between crown and medulla oblongata.

Side of the head – on both temples

Medulla oblongata – the hollow of the nape of the neck/Top of the head – crown

After doing Reiki on the head, stomach area and kidney area, then, the hands are to be placed

on a trouble area.

The three ways to raise your Reiki energy level

1. Strive to cultivate and develop your spirituality. (Your spiritual growth determines
your Reiki energy level).
2. Receive Reiju (attunement) as often as possible.
(This is possible only to Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai members, or to the participants in a Reiki gathering where Reiju is offered.)
3. Do a daily Gassho meditation before bed and after rising for about 15 – 30 minutes.

病腺霊感法 Byosen Reikan Ho

When one places hands on a trouble part (disease or malfunction) one feels “something”

resulting from the trouble. This “something” is named “Byosen”.

A sensation of Byosen varies from kind (of disease) to kind and/or from stage (of disease) to

stage. The sensation may be tingly, tickling, painful, cold, moving, vibrating or the like.

The sensation (feeling) in the hands is called “Hibiki”. Where there is a disease there’s

Byosen. When one senses Byosen and gives Reiki healing there, a disease can be prevented

from developing or can be cured.

With enough practices anyone will be able to sense Byosen by means of Hibiki, the feeling in

one’s hands.

To heal one’s present is to heal his/her past and future.

Stomach Reiki healing during driving.

One afternoon we were driving home in our car after a beautiful hike in Oregon, USA. My husband said that he was not feeling well– that he was experiencing a very sharp pain in his stomach. There was no place to pull the car over at that moment on the busy freeway. So I proposed to do a Reiki healing as he was driving. I asked my mother, who was sitting behind him, to also do a distant healing at the same time. We asked Reiki energy to heal my husband the highest way is possible here and now. The road was smooth but fast, it was difficult to position my arms. But I kept following my intuition. Me and my mother were continuously channelling Reiki energy including our eyes. After 7 minutes, he remarked that he felt much better! The pain was gone and he was happy to drive us home for another one hour.
